Abstract
Digital payment systems have become an important part of the modern banking sector. The introduction of Unified Payments Interface (UPI), mobile banking, internet banking, debit cards, and digital wallets has changed the way financial transactions are conducted. These systems provide faster transactions, greater convenience, and improved operational efficiency. They also help banks reduce paperwork and extend banking services to a wider section of society. However, digital payments face challenges such as cybercrime, online fraud, technical failures, and limited digital literacy. The present study examines the adoption of digital payment systems and their impact on banking operations. It also discusses customer convenience, financial inclusion, operational efficiency, and the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with digital payments. The study is descriptive in nature and is based on secondary sources. It concludes that digital payment systems can improve banking services when supported by reliable technology, strong security measures, and customer awareness.
